MAKIMONO MOVES
Getting healthy does not have to be complicated. Small, consistent changes can lead to lasting results. Here are a few simple habits that can make a big difference in your overall health and wellness:
1. Replace soda with healthier options. Even diet sodas can contain ingredients your body does not need. Try switching to water infused with fresh fruit or a splash of lemon juice for flavor. If you prefer flavored drinks, consider low-calorie options in moderation and reduce serving sizes when possible.
2. Add more movement to your day. Park farther away at work or when shopping to increase your daily steps. Small amounts of extra activity throughout the day can quickly add up.
3. Take the stairs whenever possible. Skip the elevator and choose the stairs instead. If you use escalators regularly, try walking up them rather than standing still.
4. Stay hydrated between meals. Sometimes thirst can feel like hunger. Before reaching for a snack, drink a large glass of water and see if that helps. If you are still hungry, choose healthy snacks such as fresh fruit, carrots, or celery, and try to avoid heavily processed foods.
5. Be mindful of portion sizes. Using smaller plates can help prevent overeating. When dining out, consider boxing up half of your meal at the start. Many people eat more simply because the food is sitting in front of them.
6. Listen to your body’s hunger cues. Try eating when you are genuinely hungry rather than simply eating because it is a scheduled mealtime. Paying attention to your body’s natural signals can help build healthier eating habits.
