Hello heroes!
We have so much for you all today! The week is half way over and before we get to our latest Golden Age Classic this Friday, we thought we would have some fun today with a Riddle, some Maki-Health, an Announcement and some Old Time Radio!
Heroes jump in!

RIDDLE: How can you physically stand behind your father while he is standing behind you?
ANSWER DOWN BELOW

**Attention! Maki-Health may be deemed offensive or objectionable to some. Maki-Health is not intended to replace your Physician's guidance. Maki-Health is simply the opinion of the author. Makimono always recommends that you check with your Physician prior to making any changes to your current health practices to ensure there are no contradictions to any preexisting conditions or ailments and that you remain in good health
HEALTH MYTHS
Each one of us, hopefully, is striving for better health and doing our best to revitalize our bodies to their optimal state. However, on the journey to better health, we all encounter myths, legends, and outright lies masquerading as advice.
Here at Maki-Health, we aim to dispel five of those today to keep you from being sidetracked or misled on your path to better health.
Myth: You need to drink eight glasses of water a day.
-
Description: This widely repeated advice suggests everyone must consume exactly eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily for optimal health.
-
Why It’s Wrong: Hydration needs vary based on factors like activity level, climate, and individual physiology. The National Academy of Medicine suggests adequate fluid intake (from water, food, and other beverages) is about 3.7 liters for men and 2.7 liters for women, but there’s no rigid "eight glasses" rule. Overhydration can be harmful, and thirst is a reliable indicator for most people.
-
Myth: Cracking your knuckles causes arthritis.
-
Description: Many believe that the popping sound from cracking knuckles leads to joint problems like arthritis over time.
-
Why It’s Wrong: The sound comes from gas bubbles collapsing in synovial fluid within the joint, not from bone or cartilage damage. Studies, including a 2011 review in The Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine, show no link between habitual knuckle-cracking and increased arthritis risk.
-
-
Myth: Eating fat makes you fat.
-
Description: This myth claims that consuming dietary fat directly leads to weight gain, prompting low-fat diets for weight loss.
-
Why It’s Wrong: Weight gain results from consuming more calories than you burn, not from fat alone. Healthy fats (e.g., from avocados, nuts, or olive oil) are essential for brain function, hormone production, and nutrient absorption. A 2017 meta-analysis in The Lancet found that low-fat diets are less effective for sustained weight loss compared to balanced diets.
-
-
Myth: You need to eat five or six small meals a day to boost metabolism.
-
Description: This myth suggests that eating frequent small meals throughout the day significantly increases metabolic rate and aids weight loss.
-
Why It’s Wrong: Meal frequency has little impact on metabolism or weight loss compared to total calorie intake. A 2010 study in The British Journal of Nutrition found no significant difference in metabolic rate or fat loss between three meals versus six meals daily when calories were equal. Eating patterns should be based on individual preference and lifestyle, not a rigid schedule.
-
-
Myth: Cardio is the best way to lose weight.
-
Description: Many believe that long cardio sessions (e.g., running or cycling) are the most effective method for weight loss compared to other exercises.
-
Why It’s Wrong: Weight loss depends on creating a calorie deficit, which can be achieved through diet, strength training, or cardio. A 2015 study in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research showed that resistance training preserves muscle mass and boosts metabolism more effectively than cardio alone, leading to better long-term fat loss. A balanced approach combining strength, cardio, and nutrition is most effective.
