Hello Heroes!
We encourage you to continue on this journey of getting healthy! CEO John Stenacker has been offering some winning advice and motivation through knowledge to keep us all in the fight for better health.
I'd like to give you some advice too, especially if you're struggling with weight loss, because years and years ago I was there! I was once 240 lbs at 5'10" tall and that was not very healthy. Today I'm about 162 lbs and I've kept it off with some simple steps.
-
Don't eat out of a box -- pre-packaged foods and snacks are loaded with chemicals and preservatives that you don't want or need. You can allow yourself to still eat foods you "love" but use some common sense. If you love Kraft Macaroni and Cheese find a recipe for FRESH Macaroni and Cheese you make yourself using the best ingredients you can afford. I personally like to buy fresh made pasta from a local market and I use an organic cheese.
-
Understand Portions -- your eyes are always bigger than your stomach-- resist the urge to overeat-- that was the biggest thing that snapped for me. I hated feeling so full I couldn't walk, so I made the decision to use smaller plates and bowls, eat slower by putting your utensils down between bites and chew your food very thoroughly. Have water with your meal. No TV-- just focus on eating slow and enjoying every bite of this new smaller portion. If you're still hungry WAIT before getting seconds, sometimes our brains need time to catch up.
-
Keep a snack journal -- My wife makes the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. I thought I was eating 1-2 a day-- by writing it down I soon realized it was a lot more than that. The snack journal was a real eye-opener and just knowing I had to write something down made me less likely to snack at all. I also found a type of apple I really liked and that became a go to snack food for me.
-
Take a walk after dinner -- 20-30 mins is ideal, you don't have to break any speed records, just get up and move. If 20 mins is too much, start lower and
work your way up.
- Don't give up -- That's the most important thing. You'll find when you change your diet and start exercising that the weight seems like its falling off -- then it slows down and almost stops -- that's normal! Keep at it and your metabolism will eventually burn more calories again.
Just remember, You Can Do It!
